March 15, 2010 ~ Sleddog Race ~ Diavik 150 Canadian Championship Dog Derby
We had the chance to make it up to Yellowknife for the 2010 ~ 150 Miler . We always loved watching that race when we lived up there. This year, we had the priviledge of hanging out with Terry Streeper as we scurried along the ice-road stopping at opportune locations to watch the team pass by. He was diligent with his clipboard and stopwatch passing times to Buddy and Lina as they passed by. Often he'd call out for their "Average!" (average speed on their GPS) or "Distance!" (how far have you travelled so far). It was a lesson in patience and stellar game planning watching the Streeper Kennel ~ also, the best lesson in speed = distance / time you'll ever get!
February 2, 2010 ~ Team CanaDog trains for the 2010 season of Sprint Sleddog Racing. Totally unexpectedly, the dogs graced me with their beautiful song while the camera was rolling :o) Enjoy!
October 14, 2009 ~ CanaDog Kennels begins training for the 2009/2010 season. Fall training begins with the Quad. We race sprint, running mostly Canadian Racing Hounds from the "Slim" line, with a mix of Seppala and Alaskan Huskies. All the dogs run together in large teams at a slower, controlled pace. When the temperature drops, we increase speed and distance ~ dogs are separated into smaller teams with matching athletic abilities.
Puppies 4 Weeks Old!! ~ Our "Peanuts" litter is 4 weeks old (August 25, 2009). It's their first romp out of the pen on the grass while mom (Dancer) takes a break. How fun is this!!
